Tinubu Submits Modified List of North West, South East Development Commissions’ Board Members

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a modified list of members of the inaugural Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC)to the Senate for confirmation.

The list replaces Ambassador Haruna Ginsau, Senator Tijani Yahaya Kaura, and Hon. Abdulkadir S. Usman with Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq, Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi, and Alh Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi as chairman.

Key Appointments

  1. Chairman of NWDC: Alh Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi
  2. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer: Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji (retained)
  3. Chairman of South East Development Commission (SEDC): Emeka Nworgu
  4. Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of SEDC: Hon. Mark C. Okoye

Other nominees for the NWDC board include:

  1. Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe
  2. Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi
  3. Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil
  4. Shamsu Sule
  5. Nasidi Ali
  6. Aminu Suleiman
  7. Chukwu Chijioke

  11. Yemi Ola
  12. Hon. Babatunde Dada

For the SEDC, additional nominees are:

  1. Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah
  2. Hon. Okey Ezenwa
  3. Chief Hyacinth Ikpor
  4. Hon. Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa
  5. Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu Ph.D
  6. Nasiru Usman
  7. Hamma Adama Ali Kumo
  8. Edward David Onoja
  9. Orure Kufre Inima
  10. Chief (Mrs.) Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma
  11. Toby Okechukwu (Executive Director, Projects)
  12. Sen. Anthony O. Agbo (Executive Director, Finance and Administration)
  13. Chief Sylvester Okonkwo (Executive Director, Corporate Services)
  14. Chidi Echeazu (Executive Director)
  15. Clifford Ogbede (Executive Director)

According to a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Mr Tinubu by the appointment, reiterates his commitment to regional development.

He said the president expects the new nominees to utilize their experience and expertise to actualize the commissions’ mandates and develop their regions.

The SEDC, considered overdue because the federal government left the region without a rehabilitation and reconstruction plan after the Civil War ended in 1970, was eventually passed into law in July 2024.
