Military Air Strike Kills Over 100 in a Horrendous Massacre of Civilians in North Darfur, Sudan

A military air strike in North Darfur killed over 100 people on Monday, according to the Emergency Lawyers group. The strike targeted Kabkabiya, a town about 180 kilometres west of El-Fasher, during the weekly market day. Hundreds more were injured, including women and children.

This horrific air strike resulted in the death of more than 100 people,” the lawyers’ group stated. Footage from the scene showed people searching through rubble and the remains of children on the ground.

The group also reported that three neighbourhoods in Nyala, South Darfur, were struck by barrel bombs, but there were no reported casualties.

Darfur is home to about a quarter of Sudan’s population, but more than half of its 10 million residents are displaced due to ongoing conflict. The Sudanese army has been in a 20-month war with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in tens of thousands killed and millions displaced.

The lawyers condemned the “horrendous massacres committed by army air strikes” and even told of another incident where a crashed drone exploded, killing six people.

Both the army and RSF have often been accused of targeting civilians.

UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher called for immediate international action, stating, “These numbers are staggering, and we cannot turn our backs.

A UN-backed report indicates that famine has begun in a major refugee camp in North Darfur.

Nearly 26 million people in Sudan face starvation, with both sides using hunger as a weapon of war.
