Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara denied on Wednesday that his administration has been racking up debt since taking office.
He clarified that the only loan taken was an ₦200 billion Naira facility for the ring road project, a dual carriageway connecting six local government areas of the state.
The governor told doubting Thomases to feel free to verify his claims with the Debt Management Office (DMO) rather than indulge in idle talk.
The governor was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 12-kilometer Okehi-Umuola-Eberi road, which links the Etche and Omuma local government areas.
The commissioning is one of a series of project commissionings by the state government that will span the period of December 4-21, showcasing his achievements in infrastructure and other developmental strides.
Fubara affirmed his commitment to the “welfare and advancement” of Rivers State residents and promised that “other roads and medical facilities” will be completed soon.
The governor observed that the previous administration blocked a road to Imo State because it led to an opposition leader’s home. “Governance shouldn’t be motivated by retaliation,” he said, adding that his administration is now completing that road project.
