Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly left the U.S. soon after Donald Trump’s election. Now relocated to the Cotswolds in southwest England, she says she’s glad to finally “get the hell out” of America.
The TV personality said she was “disillusioned” that Americans could make such an electoral choice of Trump.
Ellen, who is gay, moved out with her partner, Portia de Rossi.
Ellen and de Rossi had actually bought their English home well before the election, and they reportedly are planning on selling their putsch Montecito, California home.
The timing of their purchase of their British property is unclear. However, Ellen has been integrating herself into the celebrity social scene in Cotswolds and has been seen at various exclusive parties there.
“I can’t wait for Kamala Harris to be our next president,” she said during the campaigns. She off course, endorsed Harris for the presidency in August.
Ellen has never hidden her political preferences. During the campaigns, she told women to vote for Harris “like our lives depend on it.” About President-elect Donald Trump, she had said, he is “against everything that I stand for.”
But all the crime Trump committed was that he did not support federal abortion rights, preferring to leave each state to legislate on the issue. He also believes in the traditional Christian family value system, which he sees as the bedrock of Western civilization.
Anti-Trump Americans Emigrating
Ellen DeGeneres and de Rossi are not the only ones leaving or contemplating leaving the U.S. since Trump’s election victory on November 5.
Eva Longoria, a star of “Desperate Housewives,” also announced she would leave the U.S. and spend her life between Spain and Mexico. She claimed that Trump’s presidency would make America a “scary place” but provided no reason for her prediction.
“I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them,” she said.
Google reported that online searches for “How to move to Canada from America” spiked 5000% since Trump’s victory this month.
These desperate acts reveal how deep ideological differences run in American society. Yet, maintaining a cohesive and prosperous nation in spite of all the differences is a testament to American institutions and its enduring democracy.
When emotions calm, seeing the 66-year-old Ellen DeGeneres return to her fatherland once more, should not surprise anyone.
