Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has pegged its minimum wage at N70,000, the same as the new national minimum wage. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike approved this on Monday, November 18.

The information was disclosed by the Acting Head of the Civil Service for the FCT, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, in a statement made public on Tuesday in Abuja.

The move surprised many as several states enacted minimum wage well above the national figure.

However, the Minister also approved payment of three months’ arrears for all FCT employees taking effect from this month.

Mrs Adayilo described the approval as evidence of the Minister’s commitment to employee welfare and to “further encourage the entire staff of the Administration to support the Minister in delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,

She also expressed gratitude to the Minister for swiftly approving staff allowances and claims. She said the FCT workers appreciates the Minister’s commitment to improving employees’ working conditions.
