The recent election of Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has been declared invalid by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The court upheld the National Industrial Court’s decision recognizing Tajudeen Baruwa as the duly elected president.
MC Oluomo was elected president on November 9, 2024, after being the sole candidate at the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference in Osogbo, Osun State. However, the court ruled that the appeal against Baruwa’s re-election lacked merit and retained Mr. Baruwa as the subsisting president. The court further awarded costs against the appellants.
The National Industrial Court previously validated Baruwa’s re-election during a May 24, 2023, conference and dismissed the caretaker committee led by Tajudeen Agbede. The October 25, 2023, national delegates’ conference, which attempted to elect Isa Ore, was deemed null and void due to a lack of evidence supporting its legitimacy.
As a result, MC Oluomo’s presidency is now considered illegitimate following these judicial rulings.
