Vice President Kamala Harris formally conceded the election to Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon, more than 12 hours after the race was called in Trump’s favor. But Harris reportedly had a warning for the president-elect during her concession phone call. She reminded him of the importance of peaceful power transfer and being president for all Americans.
A senior Harris aide said that during the call, Harris discussed the importance of unity and being president for all Americans. Trump’s team confirmed the call and said the president-elect acknowledged Harris’ professionalism and tenacity.
Trump secured 292 electoral votes to Harris’ 224, exceeding the 270 needed to win the presidency by a wide margin, but his victory was just short of a landslide.
When all the tallies come in, it is projected that Harris’s loss might be the heaviest the Democrats have suffered since 1988.
She is yet to give a concession speech, as disbelief hit her campaign staffers.
Mr. Trump has become the first president in over 130 years to win a non-consecutive second term and the second ever in American history. The 78-year-old Trump will also become the oldest president ever inaugurated, beating President Joe Biden’s record by five months.
In his victory speech, Trump declared, “This was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time… This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again“.

President Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race for fear of losing the presidency for the Democrats, is expected to make the next call. He received the keys to the Oval Office from Mr. Trump in 2021. Now, he has to give them back to him next year.
A transition program must now be initiated as Americans brace to break into another dawn of the Trump era.
