A Promise of Peace: Trump’s Victory Speech Raises Hopes for End to Global Conflicts

In his victory speech at his campaign headquarters in Florida late Tuesday night, the U.S. president-elect, Donald Trump, assured that he would keep his promise to end all wars in his term.

During his speech, Trump claimed, “We had no wars, except we defeated ISIS” during the first term of his presidency from 2017 to 2021. He rejected accusations from his opponents that he would “start a war” if re-elected, asserting, “I am not going to start a war. I am going to stop wars.

Cautious Optimism

But American rivals are listening to all these with cautious optimism.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, when asked how Moscow received Trump’s statement, said they expected Trump’s promises to end international conflicts to be “followed by actions, concrete actions” once he resumes his role in the White House.

Zakharova pointed out that the international community will evaluate Trump’s second term based on his actions, not rhetoric. She interpreted Trump’s vows to end foreign wars as recognizing that the U.S. has pressing needs at home it should prioritize.

However, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev commented on Trump’s victory and said that Trump possesses “one useful quality” for Russia. As a businessman, he is averse to “spending money on various freeloaders,” indirectly referencing the humongous aid Joe Biden’s administration spent on Ukraine to sustain her war effort.

Dimitry Medvedev is not worried about Trump but the American establishment itself

However, Medvedev is not disillusioned with the idea that U.S. financial support for Ukraine will not entirely cease under Trump, stating, “Trump might be stubborn, but the system is stronger.

Throughout the campaign, Trump asserted he could resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine “within 24 hours” if he regained the presidency. He gave no specifics on how he would accomplish this. Now, he has won, the taste of the pudding is in the eating.

The Russian-Ukrainian war is one of the world’s most dangerous, with tens of thousands of soldiers dead on both sides and now North Korean forces fighting on the side of Russia – a major escalation and complication of the conflict.

The world will be looking for the magic wand Trump promised to wave to bring Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky to the table to end not only the sore situation in the Caucasus but all the needless wars.
