Manchester United have failed to win their last six European games following their 1-1 draw with Fenerbahçe in Istanbul on Thursday.

They have drawn all three of their Europa League games, albeit from scoring first in each.

Lineups

Man Utd XI (5-4-1): Onana; Mazraoui, Lindelof, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Rashford, Eriksen, Ugarte, Garnacho; Zirkzee.

Fenerbahçe XI (4-3-3): Livakovic; Muldur, Soyuncu, Djiku, Osayi-Samuel; Amrabat, Fred, Szymanski; Saint-Maximin, En-Nesyri, Tadic.

How the Match Unfolded

Erik Ten Hag named a surprising lineup, with fullback Noussair Mazraoui starting at the no. 10 role in the absence of Bruno Fernandes, whose second yellow in the game against Porto had him suspended. United struck first in the game. The goal came from a team move, with Mazraoui in on it.

Manuel Ugarte won back the ball in United’s half and passed it to Mazraoui, who played it for Joshua Zirkzee, then passed it to Eriksen, who slotted it past the keeper, giving United the lead.

Rashford could have added a second after his unproductive run into the box, as his shot was wide. Andre Onana produced a spectacular double save just before half-time as Fenerbahçe looked for an equalizer.

Youssef En-Nesyri headed once following a cross from the left, which was saved, and a follow-up pass saw his second header tipped over the bar courtesy of inspirational goalkeeping from Onana.

United saw themselves quickly back on level terms in the second half after En-Nesyri latched onto former Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin’s cross with a header past Onana.

Jose Mourinho, Fenerbahçe’s head coach, was later sent off following a protest after a penalty appeal for Fenerbahçe was not given.

Andre Onana won the Man of the Match

United settled for a draw, having managed to add another to their growing injury list as Antony was forced off on a stretcher during the last 10 minutes of the game.

What’s Next

United remain 21st on the table with 3 points from 3 games, while Fenerbahçe are 15th with 5 points.

The Red Devils face West Ham in the Premier League this weekend, while Fenerbahçe takes on Bodrum.
