The family of Herbert Wigwe, the late Group Managing Director of Access Bank plc, has denied reports of infighting over his estate. In a statement issued by Emeka Wigwe on behalf of the family, they described the claims as “entirely false and misleading.”
According to Emeka Wigwe, “At no point has Pastor Shyngle Wigwe requested 20% of the estate of the late Herbert Wigwe. Neither has there been any such request by other family members.” He emphasized that the facts regarding the estate are publicly available in the Probate Registry.
The family’s denial comes after reports emerged that Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, Herbert’s father, had sought to amend his son’s will to gain control of at least 20% of the estate. However, Emeka Wigwe stressed that the family remains united and focused on healing and growing stronger together.
Herbert Wigwe, who passed away in an aircraft crash in the United States, left behind a legacy as a visionary banker and entrepreneur. He was a major shareholder of Access Bank plc, one of Nigeria’s choicest banking brands, and sat on top of a reported massive financial empire that included Wigwe University, an ultra-modern institution located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
