Brendan Rodgers and his Celtic side were handed a harsh lesson in European football at Signal Iduna Park, suffering a humiliating defeat against Borussia Dortmund.
Celtic entered the fixture on a high, having won eight consecutive matches across all competitions, including a resounding 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava in their Champions League opener.

However, the Scottish side’s celebrations were short-lived. Just two minutes later, Karim Adeyemi restored Dortmund’s lead, and he went on to complete a first-half hat-trick, adding two more goals to pile misery on Celtic. Serhou Guirassy also found the net in the first half, making it 5-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Guirassy scored again, and Felix Nmecha added another goal, sealing a comprehensive 7-1 victory for Borussia Dortmund.
This defeat marks another embarrassing chapter for Rodgers, whose side has previously suffered heavy losses against European giants such as Barcelona, PSG, and Atletico Madrid. The defensive frailties and lack of composure under pressure were glaringly evident, casting doubts if Celtic is indeed ready for top-tier European competition.
Looking ahead, Celtic will face Atalanta in the third round, hoping to bounce back from this setback. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund, currently sitting at the top of their group, will prepare to take on last season’s semi-finalists, Real Madrid, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
