Nigerian Police say they have arrested eight persons in connection with the destruction of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study center in Eze Oke Nsu, Ehime Mbano, Imo State.
The center was set ablaze on Tuesday by unknown persons. Senator Frank Ibezim’s country home in the same vicinity was also torched. Ibezim, the immediate past senator for Imo North (Okigwe zone), was accused of attracting an Internally Displaced Persons Camp to be hosted within the campus in Nsu.
A video clip circulating showed Ibezim’s house gutted by fire, with a voice in the background lamenting the level of destruction.
Ibezim has apologized for the misinformation arising from a TV news coverage of his recent visit to the NOUN Nsu Study Centre.
He clarified that the video of refugees attached to the TV broadcast was not filmed in Imo State and the insinuation that there is intent to settle IDPs, or migrant persons at the NOUN Nsu Centre was entirely false.
