As October 1 approaches, the Kano State Police Command has ramped up security measures to address potential threats linked to the rumored #FearlessInOctober nationwide protest.

During a press conference at Bompai Police Headquarters on Monday, Commissioner of Police CP Salman Dogo Garba assured residents that security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations across the state to maintain law and order.

We have concluded all necessary arrangements to provide adequate security during and after the Independence Day celebrations,” CP Garba stated. He urged residents to cooperate with the police and other security agencies, participate responsibly in the celebrations, adhere to safety guidelines, and respect others’ rights.

Amid concerns over potential disruptions from the alleged protest, CP Garba emphasized the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment during the Independence Day festivities. He warned against any activities that might jeopardize peace and reaffirmed the police command’s readiness to respond swiftly to any unlawful gatherings.

Addressing recent security concerns, CP Garba acknowledged that while crime rates in the state have decreased, “there is still much work to be done.” He said the command is committed to dealing decisively with any emerging security challenges. “We will continue to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens while taking necessary measures against those who threaten public safety.”

It is worth noting that Kano State was the epicenter of the #EndBadGovernance protests in August, during which public infrastructure was torched and private property attacked by rampaging youths. Some protesters openly invited soldiers stationed at strategic points to take over the government, waved Russian flags, and trampled on the Nigerian flag.

While protest organizers plan to gather at Eagle Square in Abuja, nearly 1,500 km from Kano, the Kano Police Command remains on high alert, determined to prevent a repeat of last month’s violence.
