The Abuja Rail Mass Transit, also known as the Metro Rail, has successfully transported over 250,000 passengers in its first 100 days of operation.
John Zhao, an official with China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), a construction and management company, attested to the system’s safe operation since its start of business.
The 45-kilometer train route, which consists of two lines with 12 stops throughout their whole length, connects the Kubwa satellite town, the international airport, and the city center. The trains may travel up to 100 km/h. It was introduced into the transportation mix to reduce traffic in the capital of the country.
The Metro Rail, began commercial operations on May 29, 2024, following its commissioning by President Bola Tinubu. The President has since ordered free rides on the trains for six months until the end of the year to ease high transport costs for commuters due to high fuel costs.
