INEC Begins Airlifting Election Materials To Edo State For Weekend’s Governorship Poll

The Independence National Electoral Commission has begun moving election materials to Benin, Edo State, in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is airlifting for INEC to ensure timely and secure delivery of sensitive materials.

In a statement released by Group Captain Kabiru Ali, NAF’s Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, the air force operation is to support INEC’s logistics efforts and to help promote peaceful elections and a stable democratic culture.

Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff, had previously assured INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, of NAF’s commitment to assisting in the swift transportation of electoral materials.

This weekend’s election pits the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ighodalo Asuerinme against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Okpebholo Monday, and the rising Labour Party (LP) candidate, Olumide Akpata – a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and former National President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

At least thirteen other parties and contestants are also on the ballot.
