The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has started distributing 1,000 conversion kits across some Nigerian states to reduce the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

The Programme Director, Michael Oluwagbemi, said the initiative should reduce transportation costs and generate over 100,000 direct jobs over the next three years.

The government of Nigeria hopes to convert about three million vehicles, and conversion for commercial transport operators will be free of charge.

The distribution of the kits is being carried out under the codename “First Come First Serve“, with 450 kits already distributed to states and an additional 550 awaiting distribution.

Moses Onate, the Warehouse Manager of the PiCN facility, emphasized the need for Nigerians to embrace the initiative, highlighting its potential to substantially reduce transport costs.

The kits are designed to enable vehicles to run on compressed natural gas, a cleaner and more affordable alternative to petrol.
