Lagos State Hikes Boarding School Fees By 200% Ahead Of New Term

The Lagos State Government has raised the boarding fee to N100,000 each term from the current N35,000 in all state-owned secondary institutions.

Olufemi Asaolu, the Director of Basic Education Services at the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, gave the notice via a letter sent on Friday, September 13, to all boarding school principals.

The letter simply read, “I have the directive of the Honourable Commissioner to inform all Public Boarding House schools in Lagos State that the State Government has approved the review of the Boarding fee payable in all Public Boarding House schools in Lagos State.

The newly approved fee is N100,000 only.”

This comes just hours before the resumption of schools slated for Sunday, September 15, 2024, and coming at a time of severe economic difficulties for many average parents.

It remains to be seen how parents and sponsors of students will respond to the nearly 200% sudden increase.
