Biden Wears Trump MAGA Cap, As He, Harris, and Trump Unite at Ground Zero for 9/11 Memorial

On the solemn anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States of America, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Donald Trump joined in multiple ceremonies to pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 victims. These commemorations were held across the country, but the most significant moment took place at Ground Zero in New York City, where the Twin Towers once stood.

In a rare convergence of political figures, President Biden, Vice President Harris, former President Trump, and Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance appeared together during the Ground Zero ceremony. Their presence underscored the unity that the tragic event continues to evoke, even in times of deep political division.

Trump supporters have been ecstatic after pictures of Joe Biden wearing a piece of his campaign merchandise, including a bright red hat with the words “Trump 2024,” emerged online. The Biden campaign clarified that the incident was a spontaneous gesture to promote bipartisan unity during a trip to Pennsylvania.

White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates explained that the incident occurred during Biden’s visit to Shanksville Fire Station, following his appearance at a 9/11 memorial service.

“At the Shanksville Fire Station, POTUS spoke about the country’s bipartisan unity after 9/11 and said we needed to get back to that. As a gesture, he gave a hat to a Trump supporter who then said that in the same spirit, POTUS should put on his Trump cap. He briefly wore it.”

A video of the swap also appeared to confirm Bates’ account. Trump supporters continued to say there’s discord between the president and vice president since Biden announced his resignation in July. Trump has also joked about sending his new rival Harris a MAGA hat of her own, as she has, he claims, stolen many of his policies.

“Everything that she believed three years ago and four years ago is out the window. She’s going to my philosophy now. In fact, I was going to send her a MAGA hat,” Trump said.

A Solemn Event

At Ground Zero, the leaders participated in moments of silence, prayers, and the reading of victims’ names, marking the 23rd anniversary of the attacks. The ceremony was a reminder of the shared grief and resilience that has shaped the nation since that fateful day.

In his remarks, President Biden emphasized the importance of never forgetting the lives lost and the bravery shown by first responders. He also spoke of America’s ongoing fight against terrorism.

“On this day 23 years ago, terrorists believed they could break our will and bring us to our knees. They were wrong. We endure. We overcome. And there is nothing beyond our capacity when we do it together.” Biden said

Vice President Harris echoed those sentiments, focusing on national unity and the need to support the families of victims.

Former President Trump, whose presidency coincided with several key anniversaries of the attacks, offered his condolences to the families and praised the resilience of the American people. Sen. JD Vance, a rising figure in the Republican Party, also addressed the crowd, honoring the victims and the legacy of national solidarity that 9/11 represents.

The event was one of many held across the country, from the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where United Flight 93 crashed after passengers heroically fought back against the hijackers.
