Nigeria’s Meteorological Agency (NiMet)- the Nigerian agency charged with the responsibility of collecting, analyzing and disseminating information on weather conditions, has predicted nationwide thunderstorms and rains from Wednesday to Friday, September 11-13.

Thunderstorms are expected in Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna States during the morning hours on Wednesday, said NiMet.

In the North Central region, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger states during the morning hours.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States.

In the southern region, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States during the morning hours.

Intermittent rains are expected over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Rivers, and Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States during this period.

The agency urges residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours.

It further advises the public “to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet. Visit our website, www.nimet.gov.ng. Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it said.
