Benue Government Closes Ex-Governor Ortom’s Company for Alleged Tax Evasion

Benue State Government has sealed Oracle Business Limited and its subsidiaries over claims of N130 million in unpaid taxes over the past five years.

Sunday Odagba, the Benue State Board of Internal Revenue’s interim Executive Chairman, stressed during a news conference that the enforcement was a component of a more extensive campaign to reclaim taxes that corporate companies owed the state.

However, Oracle Business Limited asserted that the tax debt had earlier been revised to N38 million—a number it claims to have paid. The company also alleged political persecution on the part of the government. The company belongs to Samuel Ortom, the former governor of the state.

Mr Odagba roundly rejects the charge. He insists that the business has not settled its due tax obligations and that the government will not renege on its duties.
