Senator Emma Nwaka, a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abia State has dumped the party. He was a gubernatorial aspirant in 2022 but lost to get the party’s ticket.
Nwaka addressed his letter of resignation dated June 12, 2024 to the party chairman of his Ward 5, Oguduasa, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Chief Innocent Nwagba.
The letter only came to public notice, Thursday August 29.
Mr. Nwaka said he was leaving for “personal reasons”, and that he took the decision after “very deep consideration and reflections on the trajectory of my political life.”
“The time has really come for me to chart a new course”, the former 2nd Republic Senator wrote, although he left a caveat, “However, if in the future it becomes necessary for me to align with any partisan political platform, I shall not hesitate to share the news with the press.”
“I thank my family, close friends and political allies for supporting my decision in this regard. I am grateful for the honour of piloting the affairs of the Abia State chapter of the party for five years. | am really happy I served without a whiff of any scandal instead, the period under my watch brought to the party uncommon stability, peace and winning streak.” Nwaka added.
The PDP was the ruling party in Abia State for 24 years, through three administrations. It lost power for the first time in the state in 2023 to Governor Alex Otti’s now ruling Labour Party.
