Nigeria’s renowned music and broadcast icon, Onyeka Onwenu, affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion,” has been laid to rest in Lagos.
Onwenu passed away on July 30, 2024, at 72, after collapsing at an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She was taken to Reddington Hospital, Ikeja, where she later died.
The funeral service took place at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos, followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi.
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State were among those in attendance.
Onyeka Onwenu was a multi-talented artist celebrated for her contributions as a musician, broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist. She is survived by her two sons Tijani and Abraham.
