Gas Truck Explosion in Lagos Cause Fire, Injuries, and Burn Vehicles

A retail outlet of ExxonMobil in Lagos, Nigeria, caught fire on Thursday, resulting in two people being critically injured, six vehicles burned, and a nearby building destroyed.

The incident was attributed to the explosion of a 12-tonne gas truck at the filling station, which impacted several cars within the station and portions of a nearby building.

Emergency responders reported the gas truck exploded around 11 a.m., with two adult males being severely burned and rushed to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) activated its Tiger Response Team and rescued minor injuries.

The agency’s response team, along with personnel from the Lagos State Fire Service and Rescue team, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), and the Nigeria Police, were deployed to prevent the fire from escalating.

A full investigation regarding the cause and extent of damage is underway.
