The narrative explores his struggles and chance encounter with a new rising star Nedu, reigniting Onye Egwu’s passion and transforming his perspective.

The film is another thumbs-up to Nollywood’s rich storytelling tradition which is gaining it a place on the global entertainment map.

The Setting Of The Story

The story centers on Alex Mbanefo (played by Nollywood legend Zubby Michael), a celebrated footballer whose exceptional skills earned him the nickname Onye Egwu. His career comes to an abrupt halt due to severe injuries, forcing him to face the harsh reality that his playing days are over.

Parallel to Alex’s story is that of Chinedum, a young footballer from a slum who idolizes Onye Egwu. But despite his mother’s discouragement and rejection of a football school offer, Chinedum secretly pursues his dream. His friend Uduak, although not as talented as Chinedum, receives unwavering support from his mother, adding a layer of contrast and complexity to the narrative.

Onye Egwu weaves a tale of perseverance, familial bonds, and pursuing dreams against all odds. The intrigues and end to the story is best watched in the movie itself, titled Onye Egwu.

Star Studded Cast

The film features a star-studded cast featuring Nollywood luminaries such as Emeka Nwagbaraocha, Broda Shaggi, Chioma Akpotha, Lateef Adedimeji, Kayode Ojuolape, Ufuoma McDermott, Nancy Isime, Ini Edo, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi, Williams Uchemba, Lilian Esoro, Tacha,Tina Mba, Debo Adedayo (Mr Macaroni) and many others.
