Abia State Government has pledged to offset all outstanding salaries owed to tertiary institutions by the previous government, estimated at N18 billion. According to the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, the payments will begin in August, with N1.5 billion Naira disbursed monthly over the next 12 months.
The governor, Alex Otti, has taken decisive steps to address the longstanding issues of monthly salary payments for staff at Abia State University.
The governor directed the Accountant General to ensure immediate payment of all outstanding monthly salaries for verified staff members and directed the verification team to relocate to Abia State University to resolve outstanding issues of staff verification.
“So there’s no gainsaying the fact the Governor is committed to enhancing the welfare of the university’s staff as never done before by previous administrations,” Prince Kanu pointed out. (Continued below…)
The governor has also directed the Accountant General to meet with tertiary institution heads to harmonize overhead expenditure needs.
Mr. Otti has often told Abians that his is the people’s government and, therefore, would devote its resources entirely to the wellbeing of residents of the state.
