Former U.S. President Donald Trump, a Republican contender for the White House, is already acting like he has won the election.
Trump reportedly called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the prospects of ending the war. The ex-President has boasted that he will end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict immediately after he wins the election, even before his inauguration. He says he knows exactly what to say to Putin and Zelensky to get the war over.
Trump announced via his platform Truth Social that he spoke with Zelensky over the phone. He said he had a good conversation with the Ukrainian leader.
“Both sides will be able to come together to negotiate an agreement that ends the violence and opens a path to prosperity,” Trump said.
In the post, Trump still says that as president, he will “bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives.” However, in interviews, Trump hinted that Ukraine may have to cede some of its territory to achieve such a peace deal. And that, of course, is a dealbreaker for many Ukrainians.
“We have agreed with President Trump to discuss at a face-to-face meeting what steps can make peace fair and sustainable,” Zelensky stated on X (formerly Twitter).
