The Nigerian House of Representatives has pledged to donate N100 million to Team Nigeria’s participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu made the announcement during Friday’s plenary.
The donation will be drawn from lawmakers’ salaries. The speaker also urged Nigerians and the private sector to support the team.
The members of the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics team, along with Sports Minister John Enoh, were present in the chamber at the time. The team also used the opportunity to unveil the new Olympic sports kits.




Balele Aminu, a member representing the Dutsin-ma/Kurfi federal constituency of Katsina, presented the team with an additional personal donation of N3 million via a cheque.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas emphasized the importance of proper funding and support for sports. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to reinvigorate the sports sector.
The Paris Olympics is scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
