Israeli military operation against Hamas in Gaza has continued, with several Gaza City residents now trapped in their homes, unable to escape the siege. Several bodies are reportedly on the streets.
Gaza City, which housed over a quarter of Gaza’s population before the war, was devastated during the initial weeks of fighting last year. Many residents however have returned to the ruins of their homes after the Israeli army headed south.
With the resurgence of hostilities in Gaza City and the Israeli order for civilians to evacuate the city again, some Gazans have voluntarily decided to stay despite the danger. They say they’re willing to die in their homeland as martyrs.
Food supplies are not getting into the city due to the fighting, with many residents enduring starvation amidst booms of gunfire. The Israeli army operations are said to be increasing in intensity, and Hamas has warned the latest round of attacks could eviscerate all hopes of a ceasefire and end to the war.
