President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has condemned the multiple suicide bomb attacks in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno state over the weeked. One of them occurred at a wedding event.
At the latest count, at least 30 died and well over 100 injured from all four incidents.
It is Borno state’s first suicide attack in years, reigniting fears that Boko Haram terror group – once thought to be decapitated, is worrisomely still alive and well.
However, in a statement from Mr. Tinubu’s media office, the president described the attacks as a sign the terrorists are resorting to desperate acts of terror on soft target because they are under pressure from the eviscerating forces of the Nigerian military.
He reassured that the “purveyors of wanton violence would have a certain encounter with justice”, adding that the cowardly attack was only an isolated episode. His government, he said, will not allow the nation to slither into a theatre of fear and bloodshed.
The president promised to take all “necessary measures to secure citizens” and ensure that “those who trouble the nation, dispatching precious lives, and disrupting law and order are completely removed”.
President Tinubu condoled with the victims of the attacks, the families of the deceased, as well as the government and people of Borno State.
