The office of the Secretary of the Delta State Government, held by Dr Kingsley Emu, has issued a disclaimer regarding the fraudulent activities by a “criminal gang” claiming to be part of the SSG office and extorting money from unsuspecting persons in return for false political appointments.
In a statement issued from the office to news correspondents, the office said the scam messages were sent from a particular phone number—08085129491—using the following bank account details: Jonah Kumor. 4235384296 – Zenith Bank.
These scam messages, often accompanied by a picture of the SSG, designed with the sole purpose of defrauding innocent individuals. They make false promises of political appointments and non-existent contract awards from the state government.
Mr. Emu urged members of the public to disregard any such information that comes via WhatsApp, SMS, or any other platform. He stated that the government would never collect money for political appointments and that the messages have no merit.
He revealed that the “security agencies have been notified of the fraudulent activities of these faceless groups, and investigation is ongoing to unravel those behind the scam”.
“Therefore, it is in the interest of these groups of persons to desist from their unwholesome acts, as anyone caught would be made to face the full wrath of the law”, the government warned.
Any award of contracts or giving of appointment follows due and strict procedures and not through shady social media platforms, the statement said.
