In a series of covert counter-terrorism operations across several theatres, the Nigerian military recently recorded successes against terrorists and bandits, neutralizing some of them and rescuing captives in the process.
On Thursday, the Nigerian Army ambushed and eliminated terrorists operating in Gwoza LGA of Borno State, particularly in the Pulka and Ashagashiya areas. According to an army official report, seven women and nine children were rescued from the terrorists marauding in the area.
The operation was a joint coordinated effort between the Army, the Vigilante, and the Hybrid Forces stationed in the North East.
Ammunitions of varied calibers, including submachine guns (SMG).were recovered from the terrorists.
In Benue State, troops responding to intelligence in Ayati Village, Ukum LGA, forced terrorists to flee, abandoning weapons and ammunition, including AK-47s, Dane guns, and rifles.
Another successful operation was in Kogi State, with intel coming about the ransom payment to kidnappers. The military swiftly acted the kidnappers were arrested, and ammunitions recovered.
These successful operations may indicate that the military’s new counterterrorism strategies may be working. If the tempo is sustained, Nigeria may potentially be moving closer to becoming a safe and secure country again.
