Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has accused Nigeria’s Federal Government of deliberately distorting peace and order in Kano State.
The former governor of the state and presidential candidate of New Nigeria People’s Party in the 2023 election, who is perceived as the enabler or godfather of current governor Abba Yusuf, was speaking against the backdrop of disputations regarding the ancient throne of the Emir of Kano.
Abba Yusuf had recently dethroned former Emir Aminu Ado Bayero and reinstated a previously dethroned Emir Lamdo Sanusi as the substantive Emir of Kano.
But Kwakwanso says the APC-led government is attempting to use federal security agencies to overturn an order by the constituted authority of the state by providing support for Aminu Ado Bayero,
Kwakwanso said by so doing, the federal authorities are surreptitiously attempting to breed new Boko Haram terrorists and rebels in Northern Nigeria. He said the people will resist all attempts by the enemies of the state.
The former governor and one-time Minister of Defence said he is aware of plots to incite crisis and to come to power through a State of Emergency. “This is madness of the highest order that the good, peace-loving, and committed people of Kano will resist,” he said.
“In the build-up to 2027, some desperate politicians are already on a mission of disruption, but we would rather the two of us lose than allow them to crush us unnecessarily. We dare anybody who thinks he can victimize us politically to go and be rest assured that we are ready for the fight.”
Open to Dialogue
Notwithstanding, Kwakanso, the leader of the Kwakwansiya Movement, opened a channel of possible conciliation. He said his political group and the state government were open to dialogue to peacefully resolve the vexatious issues.
“We are open to dialogue, truce, and reconciliation, but we will not accept intimidation and political harassment. We know how to play politics, and we have all it takes to protect ourselves from evil,” Kwankwaso warned.
