Reports from the National June 12 Democracy Day celebration at Eagle Square Abuja describe a moment of national anxiety when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stumbled and fell flat on the floor of the official open vehicle as he climbed to enter the vehicle at the parade ground.
The incident happened as the President made his way to the motorcade after delivering a national address earlier this morning marking 25 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria. Eyewitnesses says Tinubu appeared momentarily unstable but quickly regained his composure with the assistance of his security aides.
Notwithstanding, the President proceeded with the scheduled events, including greeting dignitaries and participating in the parade inspection. The brief incident did not appear to dampen the high spirits at the venue.
It is not clear if the president will later seek medical help, but observers at the event reported that the President showed no signs of injury.
In response to the situation, the President’s office issued a brief statement assuring the public of Tinubu’s health. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is in good health and continued with all scheduled activities for Democracy Day. We appreciate the concern shown by Nigerians and assure everyone that there is no cause for alarm.”
