Lagos State on Wednesday began its $100 million Lagos Film City on a 100-hectare plot of land in the Ikosi-Ejinrin district in Epe Local Government Area.
The grand groundbreaking ceremony was performed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu amid Nollywood and entertainment industry stars, government dignitaries and traditional rulers.
The Lagos Film City – modelled after the Californian Hollywood is based on Public Private Partnership model between the state and a consortium of media giant companies like Del-York (United States), Ebonylife Academy, and Ogidi Studios among others.
It is expected to be the largest of its kind on African soil.
The government says it got interested in the project because it will provide countless job opportunities, encourage economic growth, and attract investments to the state.
‘’The Public Private Partnership-Model Lagos Film City will create numerous job opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and attract investment. It will be a hub for film production, visual effects, scripting, cinematography, editing, photography, and all the ancillary services that support the filmmaking process”, says Jubril Gawat, a media aide to the governor.
The Film City will serve as a centre for creating movies, visual effects, scripts, cinematography, editing, photography, and all other related services.
