FCT Abuja, Now Exempted From Treasury Single Account Of The Federation

Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) can use its Internally Generated Revenue IGR for the development of the nation’s capital.

This effectively exempts Abuja from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) of the federation introduced by Tinubu’s predecessor, President Buhari and puts the huge resources of the FCT Ministry outside the Central Bank direct scrutiny.

The announcement was made Friday by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike himself in a press conference in Abuja.

He said the President further approved the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission to allow for staff career progression.

Wike decried the nonexistence of the CSC prior to this time which he claims made it difficult for Directors in the FCTA to attain Permanent Secretary positions more readily.

Furthermore, he said the President approved the establishment of the Women’s Affairs secretariat for the FCT. The secretariat will be commissioned next week.

The Nigerian constitution portrays the president of Nigeria as the “Governor” of Abuja.

Today’s announcement underscores President Tinubu’s ongoing bureaucratic reforms, and also his increasing confidence and political alliance with Mr Wike and his political force – which is a renegade wing of the opposition party, PDP.
