United Arab Emirates has lifted its visa ban on Nigerian travelers following a meeting of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines are to resume immediate flight schedules following the agreement reached.
The news was broken by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
Ngelale said the two leaders also agreed to a framework in which the UAE is to invest several billions of U.S. dollars into the Nigerian economy across multiple sectors, including defense, agriculture and others.
He claimed the breakthrough was the result of “President Tinubu’s economic development diplomacy drive and proposals”.
Additionally, a joint, new foreign exchange liquidity programme between the two Governments, which will be announced in detail in the coming weeks was also negotiated by the two leaders.
Tinubu flew to UAE after leaving New Delhi the venue of the G20 Summit.
The UAE authorities last year stopped issuing visas to Nigerian travelers. The government complained of cult clashes, violent attacks and vandalization of property involving Nigerian nationals.
