The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced it has lost helicopter in combat while providing close air support to troops of 145 Battalion at Damasak in Northern Borno.
The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, announced this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday 03 January.
The incident occurred in the evening of yesterday Wednesday 2 January.
“The mission was part of the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North East. Details of the cause of the crash are still scanty. As soon as the details of the crash are known, they will be made public’’ he said.
Fierce battle rages on in the region since nearly 4 years now as federal forces try to contain the Boko Haram terrorist group, which claims it is now affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS).
