Pastor Tells Women: ‘Orgasm Is Your Marital Right’

Mummy Owolabi, wife of Pastor Juwon Owolabi of Lightlife Church International, has urged married women to embrace and enjoy sexual intimacy with their husbands.

Speaking during a programme titled “Marriage That Works,” she said intimacy should not be viewed solely as a means of procreation.

“If you die without experiencing orgasm, you’ve lived a wasted life,” she declared.

The cleric, widely referred to as Mummy Owolabi, said God created and instituted sex, and that women have the right to enjoy it.

“God created sex, God instituted sex and as a woman you have the right to enjoy orgasm,” she said.

She revealed that she married as a virgin and initially understood little about sex beyond its biological function.

“I knew that okay, I need to understand because this is a body of knowledge, this is like a university,” she said.

She encouraged married women to study intimacy deliberately, adding that God is not against other styles within marriage.

The Husband’s Contribution

Her husband, Pastor Juwon Owolabi, joined the discussion and argued that intimacy should not diminish with age.

He referenced the biblical Abraham and his later marriage to Keturah, saying: “If you take care of yourself, the older you become, the better it should be.“

The programme, organised by Lightlife Church International, focused on helping couples understand intimacy as a core component of marriage rather than limiting it to childbearing.

The church, headquartered in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, has branches across the country and an international following.

Mummy Owolabi’s teachings generated enormous reactions on Nigeria’s social media in Nigeria.

Some commenters wondered if the church was placing undue pressure on women to achieve a specific sexual outcome.

While some praised the Owolabis for addressing a topic often shrouded in silence, others felt the framing placed unnecessary pressure on women.

Orgasm, for educational purposes, is the peak of sexual pleasure, typically involving intense physical sensations and rhythmic muscle contractions.

Experiences and perspectives on sexual pleasure vary widely among individuals.

Mummy Owolabi’s message is a surprising departure from traditional teachings you typically can hear in a church where chastity, self-restrain and procreation are emphasized.

But the idea of having “lived a wasted life” merely on the basis of sexual rather than on one fulfilling divine mandate on earth, may be stretching the intended message too far.
