The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has announced that 79,504 candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, in the June/July 2026 National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations.
NABTEB Registrar, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, disclosed the figures on Wednesday while releasing the results in Benin City.
He said a total of 100,069 candidates registered for the 2026 examinations, compared with 92,876 candidates in 2025. This represents an increase of 7,193 candidates, reflecting growing interest in business and technical education.
Out of 97,867 candidates who sat for the exams, 79,504 achieved five credits and above including English and Mathematics, representing 81.24%. In addition, 89,580 candidates, or 91.53%, obtained five credits and above with or without English and Mathematics.
Dr. Mohammed compared the figures with the 2025 results, where 74,633 candidates, representing 83.28%, obtained five credits and above with or without English and Mathematics.
“The improvement recorded in the 2026 examination is encouraging and demonstrates the collective efforts of candidates, teachers, schools, parents and the wider education system,” he said.
The Registrar also disclosed that 24,128 candidates, representing 24.65%, were certified as craftsmen. He explained that the examinations were conducted across 2,144 centres nationwide, ensuring wide coverage and accessibility for candidates.
Dr. Mohammed confirmed that 847 candidates were involved in examination malpractice during the 2026 session.
He said NABTEB remained committed to tackling malpractice through stricter monitoring and enforcement measures, while also encouraging schools and parents to support integrity in examinations.
