Some miscreants invaded the Ondo State House of Assembly in Akure on Thursday while lawmakers were in session.
The incident disrupted proceedings and raised concerns about security within the Assembly complex.
One of the lawmakers, Jide Oguntodu, representing Akure South, noticed unfamiliar faces inside the premises and confronted them.
Oguntodu asked the group why they were at the Assembly. When they failed to provide a clear reason, he pressed further to know their origin.
The men said they came from Ondo town, the constituency of embattled Speaker Olamide Oladiji.
The lawmakers then ordered the intruders to leave the premises immediately.
Sources said when Speaker Oladiji heard about the development, he left his office to address the matter. He denied inviting the miscreants to the Assembly.
He admitted, however, that among those sent out was his personal assistant, who was already known to members of the Assembly.
Following the incident, lawmakers held an emergency meeting in the office of the Majority Leader to discuss the invasion and its implications for the Assembly’s security.
The meeting was convened to ensure unity among members and to prevent further disruption of legislative activities.
Meanwhile, a detachment of armed operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit was deployed to the Assembly complex.
The officers were tasked with protecting lawmakers and preventing any recurrence of the invasion.
