Fully Masters Scholarship in Ireland Opens for Nigerians – How to Apply

Date:

Nigerian professionals have less than a week to prepare for one of the most comprehensive postgraduate scholarship opportunities available to them.

The Embassy of Ireland in Nigeria announced on Friday, June 26, 2026, that applications for the 2026 Ireland Fellows Programme will open on Sunday, June 29, and close on July 26, 2026.

The programme offers early and mid-career professionals from Nigeria and Ghana the chance to study for a fully funded one-year master’s degree at leading Irish universities.

It is open to resident nationals of both countries who hold at least a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower, and who have accumulated at least three years of relevant work experience in their field.

“Applications for the Ireland Fellows Programme opens on 29 June 2026! Apply for the opportunity to study in Ireland on a fully funded master’s scholarship,” the embassy posted on its official X account.

What the Scholarship Covers — and the Special Human Rights Fellowship

The financial package attached to the Ireland Fellows Programme is comprehensive.

It covers full tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, accommodation stipends, return flight costs, visa fees, and health insurance for the duration of the programme — removing virtually every financial barrier that typically deters Nigerian professionals from pursuing international postgraduate education.

For Nigerian applicants specifically, the programme includes a dedicated stream: the Roger Casement Fellowship in Human Rights.

Named after the Irish humanitarian and activist Roger Casement, who documented colonial atrocities in Africa and was later executed for his activism, the fellowship targets Master’s programmes in Law, Human Rights, and Governance.

The Roger Casement Fellowship is particularly suited to legal professionals, civil society practitioners, policy officers, and public servants working in human rights and governance roles.

Applications open at irelandfellows.africa from Monday, June 29, 2026. The deadline is July 26, 2026 — giving eligible candidates less than four weeks to submit a complete application.

Candidates are advised to review programme requirements and gather supporting documents — including degree certificates, transcripts, and work experience records — well in advance of the opening date.
