Kwara Gunmen Kill 3 Police Officers in Tenebo Attack

Gunmen have attacked a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing three police officers.

The attack happened in the early hours of Saturday, May 2, 2026, leaving several other officers critically injured.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

Meanwhile, security forces have begun a manhunt for the attackers, as tensions rise over repeated violence in the area.

The camp, located in a rural part of Kaiama LGA, came under sudden assault by armed men, according to police accounts.

Police Confirm Deadly Assault On PMF Camp

The state police command described the attack as a tragic loss for the security community.

It said the officers were on duty when the gunmen struck the PMF base in Tenebo village.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, has received with profound shock and deep sorrow the report of a deadly attack on the PMF Camp at Tenebo Village, Kaiama LGA, which occurred in the early hours of today, 2nd May, 2026.”

Authorities confirmed that three officers were killed while others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

The police described the incident as a “cowardly act” and praised the officers for their service and bravery in the line of duty.

“This heinous and cowardly act, which claimed the lives of three gallant police officers and left several others critically injured, is strongly condemned in its entirety.”

The command also extended condolences to families of the deceased officers and assured support during the period of grief.

Police Launch Manhunt As Insecurity Rises

The Kwara Police Command said it has activated operational, intelligence, and tactical resources to track down those responsible.

It vowed that the attackers will be brought to justice without delay.

“CP Ojo Adekimi has vowed that the Command will deploy all available operational, intelligence, and tactical resources to ensure that the perpetrators of this barbaric attack are tracked down and brought to justice. There will be no hiding place for those responsible.”

The Nigeria Police Force has continued to face rising attacks in parts of Kwara and neighbouring states, especially in rural communities.

Meanwhile, the wounded officers are receiving medical care as investigations into the attack continue.

The latest assault comes just days after three soldiers were killed in a separate clash with suspected terrorists in the same Kaiama axis, signalling worsening insecurity in the region.
