Sexual Assault: Lagos Police Transfer TikToker’s Case to Ogun

Police investigators in Lagos State have transferred the case of an alleged sexual assault involving a TikTok user to the Ogun State Police Command, citing jurisdictional reasons.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) verified that the claimed circumstance did not take place within Lagos State, making Ogun State the statutory command to handle the matter.

The case drew broad interest after a woman shared a video on TikTok alleging that she was sexually assaulted in her home, whose address fell within Ogun State.

As a result, all information gathered by Lagos agencies has been formally handed to the Ogun State Police Command for requisite action.

Officials said the survivor has since been discharged from medical care and is currently safe.

The agency also stated that it had established contact with individuals close to the victim to ensure that important details were passed on to the proper law enforcement authorities.

The viral video triggered outrage on social media, with users calling for justice under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen. Many Nigerians demanded urgent action from security agencies, prompting Lagos authorities to initially seek assistance in locating the woman involved.

Speak Up, Seek Legal Help – Rights Advocates

In a statement issued through its public channels, the DSVA reiterated its commitment to supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence and ensuring that such cases are treated with urgency and sensitivity.

Rights advocates have continued to call on victims of sexual violence to report incidents promptly and seek medical and legal assistance.

They also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could compromise investigations or more traumatize survivors.

However, not all commentators believe the victim’s side of the story. Some took to the narrative that her account was full of inconsistencies and contradictions, but those are left for investigators to unravel.

There have been instances in which some supposed victims of sexual assault had recanted and confessed to deliberate fabrication of their story for a variety of reasons.

“It’s heartening to see that the authorities are taking this case seriously and following the proper procedures. While this is a deeply painful and challenging situation, every step toward justice gives hope to the survivor and sends a strong message that sexual violence will not be tolerated. May the survivor find strength, courage, and support from family, friends, and the community during this difficult time, and may the legal system ensure that accountability is served. Awareness, protection, and justice are critical, and this case reminds us all of the importance of standing against abuse in every form
