The Taraba State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has intercepted a suspected human trafficker and rescued 10 minors in Jalingo.

State Commandant Mr. Bako Amos disclosed the development in a statement issued to journalists over the weekend. He said the arrest followed “actionable intelligence” received by the agency.

According to Amos, the interception took place at about 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Kurmi Park in Jalingo.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Special Adviser to the Taraba State Governor on Human Trafficking, Mrs. Sarah Ishaya.

“The suspect was apprehended while making preparations to traffic the 10 children to an unknown destination,” Amos confirmed.

He added that both the victims and the suspect are currently in NAPTIP’s custody, while investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the trafficking attempt.

NAPTIP says the rescued minors will undergo counselling and rehabilitation, while investigators work to determine the suspect’s network and destination plans.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and dismantling trafficking rings across Nigeria.

Hopefully, this latest interception will strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s fight against human trafficking, or does it reveal a scale of the challenge still facing security agencies and NAPTIP? Discuss below.
