The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, showing mixed performance among candidates across Nigeria.
Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the release in Minna on Wednesday. He said 1,367,210 students registered for the exam, and 1,358,339 eventually sat for it.
Out of this figure, “818,492 candidates, representing 60.26%, obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics,” Wushishi declared. Another “1,144,496 candidates, or 84.26%, obtained five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics.”
He described the outcome as a reflection of the council’s transparency and commitment to quality education.
Reduction in Malpractice
Wushishi reported a sharp fall in exam malpractice, with only 3,878 cases recorded in 2025 compared to 10,094 in 2024 — a 61.58% drop.
Still, misconduct was not absent. “Thirty-eight schools in 13 states engaged in mass cheating and will face sanctions,” he warned. Nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano, and Osun were also blacklisted for aiding malpractice.
Special Needs Candidates and Withheld Results
NECO said 1,622 candidates with disabilities also took the examination. They included students with hearing and visual impairments, autism, albinism, low vision, and other conditions.
However, results from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State were withheld. Examinations there were disrupted by communal clashes.
Wushishi expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for backing NECO’s reforms. He advised tertiary institutions to wait for all examination bodies to release results before finalising admissions.
Candidates can now check their results online at www.neco.gov.ng using their registration numbers.
