US 2024 Election: As Trump Campaign Hits a Snag with Racist Comment, Harris Moves Ahead in Early Voting

The Trump campaign is facing growing backlash after a comedian made an insulting joke about Puerto Rico at a New York rally on Sunday. The controversy has been compounded by comparisons between Trump’s rallies and those of Nazi Germany.

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage,” causing uproar and cringing, especially among immigrant and minority communities. Trump’s campaign has taken the rare step of distancing themselves from the joke, but Trump himself have not specifically addressed the comment.

At a rally in Georgia on Monday night, however, Trump refuted the growing allegation that he is a Nazi sympathizer. “I’m not a Nazi. I’m the opposite of a Nazi,” he protested.

This came after Democrat vice presidential candidate Tim Walz compared Trump’s New York rally to a Nazi rally held in the exact location in 1939. Former Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton also made similar comparisons.

Trump addressed the comparisons, saying, “My father always used to tell me don’t use the word ‘Nazi,’ but the way people talk today it’s disgusting.

References to the Nazi era have sprung up several times during the campaign, with Trump’s former chief-of-staff John Kelly suggesting that Trump once told him that Adolf Hitler had “done some good things.” The Trump campaign denied the remarks.

Archbishop Demands Apology

Archbishop Roberto O. Gonzalez Nieves has demanded a personal apology from Donald Trump over the Hinchcliffe joke. Gonzalez, who is Puerto Rican, said during an interview, “It is not sufficient for your campaign to apologize; it is important that you personally apologize.”

JD Vance defended his running mate Donald Trump

The Archbishop acknowledged that while he “enjoys a good joke,” the comment in question risks insulting the “sacredness of a people.

In response, Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, quickly came to his boss’s side. At another event, Vance urged Americans to “take a chill pill” and suggested that people should be able to “take a joke from time to time.”

He criticized the public for being too sensitive about the issue.

Democrats Latch On To It

Yet Democrats, seeing an opportunity, are not letting the matter go away. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pummelled the Trump campaign for the joke, claiming it was a planned, orchestrated insult on the Puerto Rican people.

This is not a comedian. This is the Trump campaign. They invited this rhetoric on their stage for a reason.”

Ocasio-Cortez, who herself is Puerto Rican, called the rally a “hate rally.”

But turning the tables on the Democrats, National Press Secretary for Trump’s campaign, Karoline Leavitt, demanded an apology—not for the comedian’s joke but for comments made by Democratic Vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz.

Walz had compared Trump’s rally to a Nazi rally, saying Trump had “descended into madness” in recent weeks.

Early Voting Results

As the campaign enters its final week, polling has already begun in several states across America. Approximately 42 million U.S. voters have cast their ballots.

According to early voting results, Democrats have 40% of the votes, while Republicans trail closely with 36%. However, Republicans are leading in crucial swing states such as Arizona, Nevada, and North Carolina, while Democrats hold the lead in Pennsylvania.

JolibaLive Predicts Outcome

The election is expected to be extremely close, and given the uncertainty surrounding the key issues, JolibaLive News has long believed that the election could lead to some confusion and contention.

Nevertheless, our expectation and prediction—as stated before—is that Donald Trump of the Republican Party will prevail as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025.
