The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to invest $2 billion in a 90,000km fiber optic project to expand Nigeria’s fiber optic cable capacity from 35,000km to 125,000km.

Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications

Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy Bosun Tijani revealed this during a tour of Kano’s vandalized Digital Innovation Park.

This investment will provide meaningful connectivity to communities, ensuring schools, hospitals, government establishments, and businesses thrive in a digitally connected environment,” Tijani said.

The project aims to boost the terrestrial fibre optic backbone, accelerate growth in critical sectors like education, health, and agriculture, and position Nigeria as a net exporter of technology talent.
