The Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILoT), a socio-political organization of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria, has dissociated itself from the proposed nationwide protest scheduled to begin on August 1st.
The organization, led by Chairman Chief Edward Ekpoko and Secretary Sir Sunny Mene, said in a statement, “The planned nationwide protest is devoid of any clear agenda, and demands (if met) can only lead to a state of anarchy.”
The group compared the situation to the Arab Spring in North Africa, which led to illegal migration to Europe and other parts of the world.
ILoT called on all Itsekiri citizens, especially youths, not to participate, stating that such a protest would be an ill wind that would do no good.
They, however asked the government to emphasize alleviating the economic hardship faced by Nigerians, particularly the unemployed youths.
