Bandits Abduct 30 Travelers on Abuja-Kaduna Highway

Bandits have struck again along the Abuja-Kaduna highway abducting about 30 people. The attack occurred on Friday near Dogon-Fili, near Katari town in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Among the victims was a student from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, who was returning to Abuja to meet her family.

According to an eyewitness, the bandits, armed with AK-47 rifles, blocked the road, forcing vehicles to stop. Passengers were ordered out of at least two vehicles at gunpoint and taken into the nearby bush. It is reported that three victims were later rescued.

One of the passengers abducted in the incidents is an HND student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, in Nasarawa State, who was returning to Abuja to meet her family.

One of the bus drivers escaped from the incident. When he returned to the vehicle, he picked up some items, including the phone of one of the kidnapped victims, and reported the incident to the police station in Uke.

There is uncertainty as to the exact number of abductees. Eyewitnesses told reporters victims were more than 30, but the Nasarawa Police dispute this.

.The Nasarawa Police Public Relations Officer, Rahman Nansel said, “The number (30) was exaggerated. An 18-seater bus was recovered at the scene, and three people were rescued”.

This incident is an alarming return of violence in the area. In October 2023 there was an invasion of a community in the Keffi Local Government Area by gunmen where four students of the state’s university were kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination.

Police say they are continuing their search and rescue efforts.
