A source revealed that the Labour unions has suspended the nationwide strike for five days to allow uninterrupted meetings with the FG Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage.
Earlier reports indicated that Labour leaders had a successful meeting on Monday with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and other government officials. They reached a resolution that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to a new minimum wage higher than N60,000.
It was also resolved that the Tripartite Committee would meet daily for the next week to agree on a new National Minimum Wage.
Following a meeting with the FG Tripartite Committee scheduled for 10am today, Labour suspended its strike.
Normal government and private office shut down due to the strike may resume reopen tomorrow. The strike already took a toll on the economy. Several travellers and in particular air passengers were stranded yesterday across the federation.
